Stop Trying.. Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin

Pop singer Colbie Calliat had never caught my attention in any song before this one except for one she produced with Sesame Street about belly breathing. She has a popular single by the name of 'Try' that one of my Facebook friends had posted. I opened the link and constantly loved the song and the video.

The video begins with different women that have makeup on. At the end of the video, none of the women have makeup on and they look beautiful. The song talks about a lot of things that women are expected to do so that society and people will like her such as: shopping for the latest trend, staying slim, getting her nails done...etc.

In a time where many females will never post a picture of themselves without makeup on let alone leave the house without any makeup, this song has hit a weak spot for many females.

Do you really need hair extensions, fake eyelashes, makeup, padded bras, eyebrows drawn with eyeliner, conturing and highlighting to change details on your face?

Be yourself and do not let anyone tell you how you should present yourself. You know yourself more than anyone else.

At the end of each day, you will wipe your face off, will you love the person you see in the mirror?

Put your make up on
Get your nails done
Curl your hair
Run the extra mile
Keep it slim
So they like you. Do they like you?

Wait a second,
Why should you care, what they think of you
When you're all alone, by yourself
Do you like you? Do you like you?

Take your make up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don't you like you?
Cause I like you
